Let Life Become a Miracle of Compounding

That day, my wife and I took a trip to a fermentation factory in Chiayi.
It was an invitation I accepted without expectation, yet even twenty years later, that journey remains vivid in my memory — it was a turning point that changed my life.

Before that trip, I knew nothing about fermentation, nor about fasting; I only knew those were the themes I was invited to explore.
The saying “being at the right place, at the right time, with the right people” truly happened to me that day.

Around the same time, though I knew little about finance, I happened to learn about the concept of “regular investment plans.”
Through several friends in the financial world, I came to understand the principle of compound interest for the first time.
When I grasped the life logic embedded in whole-crop fermentation liquid, I suddenly realized that compounding doesn’t only apply to money — it also applies to health.

The vitality of fermentation is the best investment instrument; and the body itself is the most worthy investment target.
If “life” replaces “money” in the blueprint of health cultivation, then living microorganisms — the essence of life — become a steady form of health investment.
I began sharing these realizations in my classes, practicing them in daily life, and letting time reveal my own logic of wellness.

Life Itself Is the Greatest Wealth

“Having life is more important than having wealth.” Everyone understands this, yet few truly live by it.
At a certain point in life, I lost all my “wealth,” and in that loss, I came to realize — life itself is the greatest form of fortune.

My understanding of life cannot be proven by data. My dialogue with myself has always been simple: “Just do it.”
I learned to stop caring about others’ opinions and to stop being confined by family expectations.
My mother once thought I was a “disappointing son,” for I had abandoned the professional path I was trained in and refused to pursue the conventional definition of success.

Aside from teaching and writing, I dedicated every day to two vital life elements — fermentation and fasting — trusting that the compounding power of life was continuously fermenting within me.

More than a decade later, I organized my yearly photos — each year, I looked younger, more confident.
I call it “the work of compounding.” Time itself became the proof that health is the most rewarding investment.

To treat myself as an experimental subject in the compounding of life has been the most meaningful investment of my existence.
Through the years, I have witnessed countless people “rich enough to buy anything but not alive enough to enjoy it.”
Many of them once sat in my classroom.

And so, I have come to understand profoundly:
The true winners are not found on balance sheets, but in the rhythms of their own life cycles.

Time as the Medium of Compounding

Perhaps fate made me someone who does not compete with the world — yet precisely because of that, I have been able to see beyond the surface of wellness, into its deeper philosophy.
Life can be invested in, and it can be extended; this wisdom of investment must be passed on.

To live is to find meaning in living, and to give life the value of serving life itself.
I am willing to sincerely converse with those eager to learn, and to record and publish every insight — so that the compounding of life may continue.

When we speak of investment, most people think of Warren Buffett.
In the world of finance — a world distant from my own — he is nonetheless a familiar symbol.
I never sought to delve into his field, but in The Psychology of Money, I came across a passage about Buffett that deeply resonated with me:

> “Buffett’s success lies not only in his financial foundation built in youth,
but also in maintaining his health and longevity in old age.
His skill is investing, but his secret is time — that is the power of compounding.”

Buffett’s wealth was built upon the foundation of being alive and healthy.
Yet most people only see the money he possesses, not the fact that he is still alive.
That collective blindness — this loss of focus — is precisely the root of modern humanity’s declining health.

Fermentation, Fasting, and Time

I have always been sensitive to opportunities, sometimes even too sensitive, leading to misjudgments.
But I am grateful that I seized the opportunity to understand my body and to understand fermentation — two wings that now guard my life.

When people align with what is right, and when timing aligns with purpose, time itself becomes the medium through which compounding works.
After years of practicing fasting, I came to realize: fasting is the modern tool for reversing bodily imbalance.

When such an opportunity presents itself, one must widen the vision — to think of its relationship with the rest of your life, and to observe how your body responds to the way you continually invest life into it.
At one point, I found myself in an inner conversation: “This is right.”
That was the moment I began treating my body with true empathy — and my body responded:
“This is the right path to health.”

The Silent Miracle of Compounding Life

Fasting should not be viewed merely as a wellness method, nor as a tool for detox or weight loss.
Every short-sighted approach fails because it lacks two essential elements — the placement of life and the patience of time.

Looking at the collective disconnection and distraction of humankind today, we must relearn reverence —
reverence for the body gifted by nature,
reverence for the grace that exists between cells, microbes, and time itself.

This land has long given us the answer:
When one learns to resonate with life, the miracle of compounding quietly begins to unfold.
