The Future of the Future

As the 33rd Detox Retreat quietly came to an end, I suddenly realized: it’s already been three years since Selfasteam began independently hosting its own retreats.
I once stayed with the “Rejuvenation Camp” all the way to its 109th round—month after month, for more than nine years. From an initial burst of passion to a flame that still burns today, these nearly two decades have truly been the most vibrant and youthful years of my life.

When I began calling for new participants for the upcoming long-term fasting retreat this August, what appeared before me was deeply moving—not just one or two people, but over a dozen who responded enthusiastically. This will mark a pivotal moment in the history of Selfasteam’s long fasting journey.
It’s not about next month, or the month after. It’s about the future of the future.
Not for next year, or the year after, but for that more distant, more profound tomorrow.

I recall that August in 2018, when I planned a surprise birthday dinner for my wife. I invited a pianist to play live, and sang the song “The Future of the Future” for her, hoping to paint a beautiful vision for the second half of our lives.
Back then, my motivation was simple—to thank her for her years of devotion and companionship.
But destiny is often unpredictable. Someone once told me: perhaps her departure was precisely to fulfill my mission, to allow the vision of Selfasteam to fully unfold.

Since stepping into the path of fasting and wellness education, my vision of the future has never been limited to personal health. Rather, it’s about connection—between people, between families, and among communities.
I have always believed, and many within the Selfasteam family also firmly believe, that this kind of education is the essential life foundation for generations to come.
What we are striving to build is an environment that offers true hope to our descendants.

You have to make a choice: health or medicine—these two paths will always remain parallel and never intersect.
If you choose health, you cannot rely on medicine. And this decision must come from the body itself, not from someone else’s opinion.
Do you long for a body free from illness and pain?
If the answer is yes, then say to your body: “I am willing to work for it.”
That resolve should match the courage of someone willing to travel to the ends of the earth for the one they love.

Because love has magic. You’d cross mountains and face your fears just to see that one person.
Only through loving another can we truly learn to love ourselves.
And the body is part of yourself—so loving yourself begins with loving your body.
For this love, no hardship feels bitter.

Even if there is temporary pain and labor, if it leads us to witness a future without disease, it is all worth it.
As long as you genuinely love your body, it will return the favor with a gift: the quiet but powerful message—“I am capable of anything.”
I have received this strange yet firm confidence during several of my fasting experiences—an inner conviction forged by willpower, and a path of Selfasteam that modern people desperately need to walk.

As early as 2008, I made a promise: I would teach the lesson “When the body processes food, it cannot process waste” for thirty years, until the day I’m ready to let go and pass the torch.
From that moment on, I recognized only two types of true wellness expertise:
One belongs to the mind, and the other to the body.
Expertise of the mind does not require fasting—and may even oppose it when in conflict—because it prefers theory over practice.
That’s why I’ve filtered out many health books written solely from intellectual perspectives.

I often tell my students: “Deepen your fasting practice.”
Only through depth can we gain true insight. Only through deep, meaningful interaction with the body can we receive its most gentle transmissions.
Only then can we begin to paint a vivid image of the future within our hearts.

At the 33rd Detox Retreat, one of our students, Wenzhi, spontaneously went on stage to share his thoughts. He specifically mentioned the song “The Future of the Future,” remembering that I had quoted it in an article months ago.
He spoke of the line, “White pillars, black glass curtains—hiding the ones who will change the world.”
He said, Selfasteam will surely grow stronger—and that each of us participants is one of those hidden changemakers, quietly transforming society from within.

At that moment, the DJ spirit in me awakened. I immediately played the song, and the entire retreat was infused with a rare musical resonance.
When music plays, my soul stirs. “Drink, and rise. Hear, and soar”—that’s the truest portrayal of my connection with music.

“Tell me, the world won’t change too fast.
Tell me, tomorrow won’t get worse.
Tell me, tell me—the future of the future—I’m waiting.”

And so, as for the future vision of Selfasteam, I want to say this:
The growth we seek is a humble one—a growth with grace, with cultural depth.
Not a growth measured by numbers or achievements, but a profound nourishment of the culture of the body’s way.

“Tell me, humanity has not yet despaired.
Tell me, God has not gone mad.
Tell me, tell me—the future of the future—I’m waiting.”
